Dr Sara Poananga
Clinical Psychologist.
Sara is a clinical psychologist registered with the New Zealand Psychologist Board, and is a member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists. She provides psychological assessment, diagnosis and treatment for individual adults. Her approach to therapy is guided primarily by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, though she also incorporates other evidence-based therapy modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.

Anxiety - e.g. excessive worry, physiological panic symptoms, social anxiety, health anxiety, performance anxiety, fear and avoidance of situations.
Trauma
Stress/burn-out
Grief and loss
Relationship difficulties
Difficulties managing emotions
Adjustment to chronic illness
Self-esteem and self-confidence issues
Sara is an ACC registered provider for Sensitive Claims (sexual abuse) and a psychologist for employment assistance programmes, such as Instep and Access Wellbeing. She can also provide independent psychological assessments for Fertility Associates.
After completing her undergraduate Bachelor of Arts at Otago University she went on to complete a BA (Hons) and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Massey University. Prior to working in private practice, Sara worked for a community mental health team for 5 years.
Sara can offer sessions at Pollen Street Practice, or via teletherapy, from Monday to Friday. Though limited, after-hours appointments are also available.
