Dr Kirsten van Kessel
Clinical Psychologist.
Kirsten is registered to practice as a clinical psychologist and a member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists. She has extensive experience and advanced training in cognitive behavioural therapy and provides psychological therapy for individuals at Pollen St Practice or via technology based platforms.
Kirsten’s areas of interest and experience are in working with:
• Anxiety
• Bereavement and grief
• Coping with chronic health conditions
• Depression
• Substance use problems
• Self-esteem and self-confidence issues
• Sleep difficulties
• Stress
Kirsten graduated with a Master of Arts (First Class Honours) from Auckland University in 1991 and went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology at Auckland University 1992, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy at Massey University in 2002. She graduated with a PhD in Health Psychology at the University of Auckland Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences in 2007.
Kirsten has worked as a clinical psychologist in adult community and in-patient mental health services, physical health settings, alcohol and drug services, a specialist cognitive behaviour therapy service and private practice. She also worked in the Psychology Department and the Department of Psychological Medicine at Auckland University, and is currently employed as a senior lecturer in the psychology department at AUT University.
Kirsten works on a Friday at Pollen Street Practice.
